Something that I have been attempting to sort out for almost 6 months! Finally i'll be able to be on the road even when it's raining. Thanks.<br /><br /><span style="font-size:130%;">Not My Night</span><br /><br />In my second outing at The Thomas Kemp's Nuts poker league I didn't fare as well as my debut. A feeble 17th out of 27 compared with 5th at the first attempt. I made a move with AK suited on the button with a well-below-average stack only to be called by both blinds. My hand stood no chance against the BB's AA! Which was a shame as the guy in the SB made a shockingly loose call with KJ off.<br /><br />I'm not sure who is spreading the word for this event but whoever it is they are doing a great job. This week there were 27 runners but the previous week had an astounding 39 players! They must have taken up half the pub - and took a fortune behind the bar!<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/436144934753243656-3122049676514893426?l=homepokerden.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>AndyHendo : HomePokerDenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03913203386845531861noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-436144934753243656.post-5847765165875292762009-02-09T08:21:00.000-08:002009-02-09T09:20:51.903-08:00For those people that enjoy the thrill of live poker but a) can't get a home game together as often as they would like, or b) don't fancy the more intimidating option of going to a casino I would totally recommend a local pub league.<br /><br />I remember seeing <a href="http://www.thenutspokerleague.com/">The Nuts Poker League</a> appearing on Dragons' Den a couple of years ago, and other than thinking that it looked like a good idea, I didn't really give it a second thought.<br /><br />It was only when hunting around for regular poker events in Brighton (for me to use as meeting places to spread the word about Home Poker Den) that the name popped up when searching on Google. And, luckily for me, there was a regular event occuring in <a href="http://www.drinkinbrighton.co.uk/venue.html?venueid=398">The Thomas Kemp</a>, under a mile away.<br /><br />Although the night was running a little late, the setup was better than expected with decent enough table tops and good poker chips - although the 500s looked pretty similar to the 1000s, which is not helpful in a dimly lit pub! The atmosphere was pretty casual and the opponents were of very mixed abilities. The top 8 finishers are rewarded for their efforts with league points, which are accumulated throughout a three month season. The pub's results are tracked and updated online each week adding an extra dimension to the competition.<br /><br />The top 25% in the league from each pub will be sent to the Regional finals to battle it out with the best that the South East's pubs can offer. From there a chance to make it to National finals and poker glory!<br /><br />I was very happy to record a 5th place finish to get my season off to a good start. My night ended abruptly when I had to push A2 on a short stack with the button, was called by AJ, and said goodbye when the flop came AJJ!<br /><br />As you can probably gather I am very much looking forward to going again tomorrow night.
